MasterChef Potjiekos Competition
Our MasterChef Potjiekos Competition is fit for all ages. Each team have to cook a potjie that represents a country. The potjie competition also have regular intervals with Ice Breakers, where teams can win some more key ingredients.±09h00 - Arrival Coffee & Freshly Baked Giant Muffins at Barney’s
±09h50 - Dividing Teams
The entire group would stand in a circle and everybody would get a number. All the “number 1’s” would be in a team, and all the “number 2’s” in another team, etc. Allow about ten people per team.
10h00 – Potjiekos Competition
In this competition, teams will learn to exchange resources (ingredients) with other teams. Each team receives a Mystery Box with Herbs, Spices, and Utensils. But not all the Mystery Boxes have the same goodies in. One team may get the tomatoes and pepper, while the other team will have the onions and salt etc. Teams have to swop or trade the goodies to prepare a potjie that represents a country, i.e. Mexican, Thai, Greek, and Zimbabwean etc. (not South Africa)
11h30 - Watch 4D Movie
The entire group go watch the 4D movies, usually a cartoon, with 3D glasses that is amplified with wind, mist and rocking chairs.
Win more ingredients with Fun Ice Breaker
Teams may also compete in Ice Breakers to win more key ingredients, such as Cooking Oil. Ice Breakers are short fun group activities. These Ice Breakers are done at regular intervals, and are loads of fun. Ice Breakers may include “38”, “People to People”, “Shoot me down”, Letter Games, and Word Games etc.
12h30 – Judging
One person from each team is chosen to be a judge. The judges must each select a different criteria, i.e. taste, texture, and presentation. We tellie all the points, and we have our new MasterChef. Alternatively, the Gold Reef City Executive Chef(s) will judge the potjies.
12h45 - Lunch
The potjies are served, and teams dish sides from the buffet. The buffet include Rice, Pasta, Sauces, Assorted Veggies, Baby Potatoes, a table with Assorted Cheese & Salads, and a Desert Table with Malva Pudding and Custard, and Assorted Desserts. This menu is not cast and stone, and may vary from day to day.
